Listening to God.

Kayakalpa Experience Report.

Dear human friend,

From the 16th to the 20th of December, I spent my time in a dark room retreat, Kayakalpa. When I shared my experiences with my close friends, they encouraged me to publish some of what I went through on my blog. Now that I try, I have a feeling, that most of it would be much too private for me to tell everyone. Instead, I would want to use this post to encourage all of you to try something alike. Going into the void. Emptiness. Silence. Retreat. Listening to the stillness. And of course, the “how” is up to everyone by yourselves. It must not be complete darkness or four days in a row. Ten minutes a day in meditation can be just as good…

So, let me try:

Mother Teresa once said to a journalist that she was praying to God every day. Being asked by her interviewer what she is telling Him in her prayers, she answered: “Oh, I am not talking much, when I pray. I am rather listening to God.” After that, the journalist questioned, that when she was rather listening, what would God tell her then? She replied with a smile: “Well, He is rather listening as well.”

What a beautiful picture. Mother Teresa and God. Both are listening to the other. Sitting in stillness. Praying. This is communication. In silence.
