The Scapegoat

This is a story on how to deal with scapegoating.

Felix started crying, the very moment I asked him, why he was here.

Felix was a young man of about twenty-one. He was tall, handsome, well-dressed and one could tell that he was of privileged upbringing. Still, his posture showed different signs. His back was shaped round as if it carried a heavy load, his shoulders pulled up to the ears, his eyes had not many signs of brightness in them, his skin was pale and something from the knees downwards his feet seemed to not be properly available for smooth movements.

I waited patiently for him to talk, and my eyes were closed as I tried to grasp a glimpse of the frequency around him. What I perceived was sadness, of course. Then loneliness. And fear. Much fear.

“I cannot cope any longer.” These were the first words from him, then he looked me straight in the eyes and asked: “Do you know what a scapegoat is?”

From my history class in school, I remembered and was tempted to say:

“The expression Scapegoat comes from the Jewish practice, in which two goats are chosen from the pack. One of them is then decided to become sacrificed to the God Yahweh. The other one is made the scapegoat. That means, that all the sins…
